High temperature resistant wires can be single conductor or multi-conductor. The most common high temperature wire conductors include copper plated, nickel plated copper or tin plated copper. Some high-temperature electrical wires also include additional jackets made of fiberglass or fiber materials. Two key factors that can guarantee a high temperature wire suitable for its application are the ampacity and the temperature rating.


The ampacity is calculated by the maximum current that the insulated conductor can withstand without exceeding the jacket temperature and insulation limits. For example, if a high temperature wire is undersized, it can generate more heat than the circuit loads.


Temperature rating is defined as the maximum continuous temperature that the wire can withstand throughout its life. If the temperature rating does not match the environment and the environment, then the life of the wire will be affected.
